The #9 revealed he broke a bone in his hand in an unusual gym accident ahead of the Estoril Round and has since been declared unfit

Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) will take no further part in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship visit to the Circuito Estoril. ‘Petrux’ disclosed ahead of the round how he had fractured his fourth metacarpal in his right hand after an accident in the gym involving a metal wall. The Italian rider was subject to review after FP1 following a Thursday check and, with worsening symptoms of the injury, has been declared unfit.

The #9 was ninth fastest in FP1 despite carrying the knock, finishing just ahead of Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in tenth. Petrucci missing out on the races at Estoril is a big blow in the battle for P3 in the Championship standings. The Italian currently holds that third place, 30 points clear of Bautista and 31 ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) with two rounds to go.
